Mr Huang Wei Zhong Shawn

“We must give everyone opportunities to do well,

contribute to others, and have a meaningful life.”

Shawn is a director for enterprise development at Temasek International, where he is working on new growth opportunities that can benefit Singapore. He was formerly a fighter pilot in the Air Force. He served as a commanding officer of an F-16 squadron, and was Parade Commander for National Day Parade 2018.

Shawn has been an active community volunteer in Taman Jurong Constituency over the last 10 years. He has dedicated most of his free time to mentoring children from low-income homes, helping former prison inmates to restart their lives, and finding ways to empower other disadvantaged residents. He also led efforts to give residents opportunity to participate in the arts, serving as chairman of Community Arts and Culture Club for several years.

Shawn learnt about life and the importance of hard work early, spending most weekends helping his parents at a small family shop. He decided to work after he finished his schooling, and joined the Air Force as a pilot trainee, where he served for 19 years.

Along the way, he was sent to the United States Air Force Academy, where he graduated with a degree in aeronautical engineering with distinction and was the first non-American to become the top graduate in military performance. He was also sent by the SAF to attend a command preparation course at the Defence Language and Education Centre in Indonesia where he learnt Bahasa Indonesia and became the top air force graduate.

Shawn is married and has 2 young children, who love cycling at Jurong Lake Park and drinking iced Milo.

WHAT WE ARE DOING TOGETHER IN JURONG GRC

We must never stop in our efforts to make Singapore better, for every citizen

We believe this requires good government policies complemented by strong community initiatives.

We strengthened many of our schemes during COVID-19, and will continue with several of these initiatives in Jurong GRC even after the pandemic.
We will work closely with government agencies, volunteer organisations, employers, our many committed volunteers and all our residents,
to build a strong and compassionate community.

Looking after
